Better IT Security

We’re really not OTT about IT security – experience has shown us how easily over-zealous security can break business productivity, but there is a sensible level of security and that really has jumped one or two levels in the last 12-24 months…so it really could be time to think about it again…

There’s plenty of internet statistics to raise the blood pressure and typically more than 50% of businesses that suffer a catastrophic data loss fail to survive, so assured data backups for business continuity are a real minimum. And consideration needs to be given to both on-premise data (PCs and servers) as well as cloud data (Dropbox, Office 365, Google Drive, websites etc)…

The government’s Cyber Essentials certification adds a number of other elements to this minimum list incl malware protection, access control and patch management.

And whilst we won’t be jumping on the frenzied bandwagon of certain, not-to-be-named, data protection legislation arriving in early 2018, it certainly does have implications that cannot be ignored.

The good news is that for most organisations there are plenty of easy wins to be had. Over the next 6-12 months we want to work with all our customers to ensure that they can sleep easily at night – if you want to know more in the meantime, please contact us.
